Marc Cucurella’s 1st of many Chelsea Interviews, his home debut and the London derby controversies.
Marc Cucurella, a winger for Chelsea who recently transferred from Brighton & Hove Albion, has addressed the media.
Cucurella joins in a move that could be valued up to £63 million, and for Thomas Tuchel, he can play both on the left wing and on the left side of the center of defense.
Less than 24 hours after moving to Stamford Bridge, the defender made his Premier League debut against Everton as a substitute.
When Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur drew 2-2, Cucurella was given the start and contributed to Kalidou Koulibaly’s opening goal.
During the game, the Spaniard was involved in a contentious incident when Cristian Romero pulled him to the ground by his hair, but VAR rejected the claim that it constituted violent behavior before Spurs scored an equalizer from the ensuing corner.
Following Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling’s press conferences, Cucurella was the next new acquisition to address the media. He talked about the move, his contentious home debut against Spurs, Manchester City’s interest, and other subjects.
What Marc Cucurella said during his first press conference since becoming a Chelsea player
Debut vs Everton:
The previous weeks weren’t easy for me, but I was thrilled to play, stay in this place, and win. I trained one day before playing at Goodison Park.
Spurs hair pull:
“Yes, it was too obvious to me during the game and on the field. I didn’t see it on television or in the film, but I do believe it was extremely obvious. Nevertheless, this was a mistake made by the referee or VAR.
“My issue is not with this. Perhaps we need to put in more effort to avoid giving up this goal in stoppage time. I noticed people in the stadium looking for a red card. I can see it clearly. I’m not sure what happened right now.
“Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. This is football. In this game it’s an error and in other games maybe the referee gives good decisions.”
Summer interest from Man City and Chelsea:
An active one! several rumors. Moving to a large club, in my opinion, was a wise decision. Chelsea is a sizable team. ecstatic to be staying here. intrigued all summer long. I’m glad to be staying.
“I’m thrilled since the sum is large and Todd [Boehly] and the gaffer showed such a great deal of interest in me. I want to put in a lot of effort, fit in well with the group, and perform well for the squad.
Stamford Bridge:

“It’s incredible. When I was playing for Brighton last year, we scored in the last seconds. The atmosphere at the stadium is excellent, and the fans sing. The stadium has a distinguished history. It’s great for me to play for this team.”
His best position:
“I can play any of the three spots on the left side. Perhaps the left-back position in a back four is where I am most comfortable because I have spent my entire career playing in this position in academies and have better movement there.
“I run as well to be good for the team if the gaffer puts me in another place.”
Cristian Romero:
“For me it’s no problem (hair pull). Before the game I speak with him. I have no problem. It’s only one action in the game. Maybe an important action because it changes the final result. We have another opportunity (to beat Spurs).”
If he will change his hairstyle:
“No. Never. This is my style!”
Thomas Tuchel:
“They seemed ecstatic, so I’m surprised. I don’t know why he met me at Barcelona Academy, but he did. To stay here, I must put forth a lot of effort. They give me the chance, but I have to work hard to earn it.”
Taking free-kicks:
“It’s difficult the free-kicks. In Brighton I take them. Here, other players can take them. If I have the opportunity, maybe I take one. I will score, 100%.”
Chelsea squad:
We have a good team. A lot of young players. Winning trophies is difficult. We work hard for this all season. This is our objective. Win trophies.”
Ben Chilwell:

“They are a huge assistance to me in these early days. The rivalry is strong. For one position, we put forth a lot of effort. The gaffer inserts the superior player into the starting lineup. The squad will benefit from this.”
Six-year contract:
“You need some years to adapt. I am not pressured, in my mind it is not six months. Work hard, play for the team, enjoy football. It is only papers. I am happy here. Maybe I’ll stay more years!”
Cesar Azpilicueta:

“When I spoke (Tuchel) said to me Azpilicueta is extending his contract! I am focused on my things. The team is very good. If new players arrive, maybe it is better but the level is very high.
“I’m very happy with this, he’s a legend here. He stays here I think 10 years in a big club, always playing. Now he is the captain. The gaffer compared me with this player, it’s good for me.
“He helped me a lot, with the houses, schools, kids. He speaks Spanish. It’s good for me the captain is Spanish. I’m good, I’m happy!”
“This is a big step in my career. The opportunity to play in the Champions League, fight for trophies, win the league. If I play good I stay with the club and can play national team.”
