Mary Louise McDonald is from a 2nd class family in south Dublin born to father constructor and surveyor Patrick McDonald and mother Joan, she witnessed her parents divorce at age 9. McDonald’s is the second of four children Bernard, Patrick and Joanne.
McDonald was involved with the Irish National Congress, a cross-party republican organisation, and got appointed aschairperson in 2000, leading a protest in Dublin against the participation of the city’s Lord Mayor. Her height is 1.68m
Education
McDonald studied at the Catholic all-girls, Notre Dame Des Missions in Churchtown, South Dublin, where she was better known for aggressive debating, McDonald continued at the Trinity College Dublin, where a bachelor’s degree in English Literature was attained. McDonald’s subsequently furthered in industrial relations at Dublin City University, and also received a Master of Arts degree in European Integration Studies from the University of Limerick.

Mary Louise McDonald is married to husband and gas control superintendent for the emergency dispatch division of Gas Networks Ireland, Martin Lanigan who also doubles as state infrastructure provider. They have been married since 1996 with two children
Health Concern
McDonald is asthmatic. In April 2020, she tested positive for COVID-19. In a statement later she announced she had recovered from the condition but had developed pleurisy in her right lung. She said that the Public Health Doctor had told her that she was no longer infected or infectious
