She has served as a U.S. Representative since 1987, from California.
Pelosi was a known major opponent of the Iraq War as well during the Bush administration’s 2005 endeavor to moderately privatize Social Security.
She was contributory to the passage of the majority of the Obama administration’s landmark bills, which include the Affordable Care Act, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and the 2010 Tax Relief Act during her very first speakership tenure in office.
Pelosi was re-elected to a fourth term as speaker of the House on January 3, 2021, which had been predicted to be her last by many, after an arrangement with progressives.
In January 2022, she announced that she would keenly contest for reelection as a U.S. representative that very year, even though she had earlier promised in 2018 to not seek the speakership anymore.
