Paul Adom-Otchere sues Captain Smart for defamation; demands GHS10 million

Media General was included in the lawsuit by Mr. Adom-Otchere, who is also the board chairman of the Ghana Airport Company.
He asserts that on August 26, 2022, the plaintiff accused him of being a corrupt journalist and made defamatory remarks about him on Onua FM/”Onua TV’s Maakye” broadcast.
The broadcaster argued in his writ, which was submitted to the High Court, that the derogatory comments had caused him to appear despicable before his peers and other right-thinking people.
Among other things, the chairman of the Ghana Airport Company Board of Directors asks the court to uphold that Captain Smart’s comments are defamatory and to grant “damages in the sum of 10 million Ghana cedis for the defamatory words made by 1st Defendant on Onua TV and Onua FM.”
He is also seeking “compensatory damages for the damage done to his reputation and aggravated damages for the reckless and malicious publication of the defamatory words.”
Adom-Otchere is seeking GH10 million in damages, among other things, for the harm to his reputation caused by Captain Smart’s remarks made against him on Onua FM/TV.
However, Captain Smart has told his journalist colleague Adom-Otchere to stop playing games.
“Nana Addo cannot sack Ken because they are both corrupt. Paul Adom-Otchere is my senior but he is a fool.
“The Asante Bediatuo and Gabby who have been giving you money say you’re an idiot. You’re fooling a lot. Stop it.”
“Why do you want to redefine conflict of interest? If you are not careful, politics will make you a useless being at the disadvantage of the ordinary,” Captain Smart said on Onua TV.
