The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo, has urged the US government to invest in Ghana’s railway industry. The President claims that because the nation’s transportation demands are expanding and the railway network is currently mostly abandoned, it is imperative to improve the sector. A delegation from the US Congress visited the Jubilee House on Friday, August 26, 2022, and delivered President Akuffo Addo’s petition.
“We are looking for major American investment,” the President said in his statement. “I am particularly excited about the possibility of attracting American investment in our rail infrastructure. For us, it’s a significant development. The colonial powers permitted us to have a sparse but effective railway system in the nation, he continued. Unfortunately, we have now allowed it to decay rather of building on it and expanding it,” President Akuffo Addo said.
President Akuffo Addo emphasized that in the case of Ghana, the choice not to build on her existing rail infrastructure, “has proven very costly”. The railway infrastructure and transportation is an area that the US has a lot of expertise and capabilities in, and Ghana is ever ready to open her doors to all American investors who would want to venture into the same, President Akuffo Addo added.
