We shouldn’t ignore our religiousness because we’re poor – Finance Minister justifies National Cathedral
The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has denied claims that the government is funding the construction of a national cathedral.
In an interview, the Finance Minister stated that there is never a good moment for such vital monuments and that the government will ensure that they are built.
According to him, the state’s current economic difficulties should not discourage it from completing its obligation to construct a monument with significant investment potential.

“At any point in time when these buildings were built in Europe, was it ever the right time? How do we fund it will become the question. Is the executive mindful of the current situation? We shouldn’t snuff out our religiousness or spirituality because we are poor. The Lord will understand if we put our widows mite in there”, he stated on GTV on Sunday.
He believes the boiling debate over the National Cathedral’s financial prudence and relevance is erroneous.
“That question being asked is that are we spending money from state coffers? Is that too much to do because we are politicizing it. Do we really want to stop it? That is going to be my question.”
Ken Ofori-Atta, on the other hand, wants detractors to keep in mind the real money the National Cathedral project could bring in to help the government meet its revenue targets.
