Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nkestia is popularly known as “General Mosquito”. Johnson Asiedu Nketsia is a Ghanaian politician and the general secretary of the National Democratic Congress(NDC).
He is the longest-serving general secretary for NDC. Before he entered into politics, he was a banker. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and once served the church as an elder.
Early Life and Family
Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nkestia was born on the 24th of December 1956 in Seikwa B/A a village in Wenchi Municipal District of Bono Region which was then Bring Ahafo Region to the late Nana Kweku Asiedu,a farmer from Oyoko royal family and Madam Hagar Akosua Afrah from the Akwamu royal family.
He is the fifth child of nine children. He is happily married to Vida Adomah Asiedu Nkestia with five children. Two handsome men and three beautiful ladies and seven grandchildren.
Education
Hon Asiedu had his basic education at Seikwa Presbyterian School and then continued at St. John’s college of education to be trained as a teacher in Bechem from 1974 to 1978. He began his career as a professional teacher at Seketia Presby primary in the Jaman North District of the Bono Ahafo Region.
He gained admission to the University of Ghana Business school in 1983 to read Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration (Banking and finance). He graduated with second-class upper honors. Hon was a member of the pioneer batch for a Post Graduate Training Program in Stock Brokerage and Analysis when Ghana Stock Breakage was introduced.
In the year 2019, he obtained a Master of Science Degree in Defense and International Politics from Ghana Armed Forces Command College with a thesis on Anti-corruption infrastructure in the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
Career

Aseidu Nketia has worked at GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited. He then worked as a manager for the Nkoraman Rural Bank and Sehwi Asawinso Rural Bank as a trainee manager. He has also worked with the National Trust Holding Company Limited (NTHC) as a stockbroker and an investment banker until he was approached by his kinsmen to represent them at the consultative Assembly.
Life in Politics
General Mosquito,’’ started his political career when he was elected to represent Seikwa at the first Wenchi District Assembly in 1989.
He used his position as an assemblyman to mobilize his people to undertake some ambitious development programs ever seen in the Seikwa area —the Nkoranman Secondary School project, Seikwa Health Centre, Seikwa and Dagadu Maize Markets projects, and the Extension of Seikwa Palace, among others.
He contested for the Wenchi west seat and won as a member of Parliament, he spent 12 years in parliament and served on several committees including the Appointment committee, Finance committee, public accounts committee and others He also served as a Deputy Minister for Food and Agricultural in charge of crops under the Jerry John Rawlings administration. Mr. Aseidu Nkestia was nominated by the Parliament of Ghana to be a member of the International Parliamentary Union from 1995 to 2005. 2017, he was elected Vice President of Socialist International in absentia at Cartagena. He was elected to serve under the current President of the Organization, George Papandreou, who doubles as the Prime Minister of Greece.
Building the NDC
After a successful three terms in parliament, he stepped down to retire from active politics in the year 2005. At the party’s delegate conference in December 2005,he won over 80% of the vote beating the acting general secretary Bede Ziedeng, Mr. Antwi Boasiaki and Mr. Sylvester Mensah to become the 3rd general secretary of the NDC. At an election conducted in Temale in the year 2010, he won again and retained his seat. His last contest was between koku Anyidoho his deputy and himself and he won with over 80%.

Not much information has been gathered about Aseidu Nketia”s net worth at the moment. Most Ghanaian prefer to keep issues about their wealth private and Aseidu Nketia is not an exception. However, looking at the positions he has served in his political career and the number of years he has been in politics, One can say that General Mosquito is one of the richest politicians in Ghana.
