Who is Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang: Running mate for the NDC
Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman was born on November 22 1951, in Cape Coast, Ghana. She went to Aburi Presby Girl’s School and Anglican Girl’s School in Koforidua and followed up with her secondary education with Wesley Girl’s High School in Cape Coast for her secondary education.
Prof. Jane received her B.Ed (Hons) in French and English from the University of Cape Coast in 1977, and her masters and decorate degrees from York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, between 1980 and 1986.
Career
Prof began teaching and working at the University of Cape Coast in 1986. She has served as Head of Department of English, Dean of Faculty of Arts, Dean of School of Graduate Studies, Valco Trust Fund Post Graduate Hostel, and Warden of Adehye Hall, among other academic posts.
Prof. Jane Naana served as the Academic Director of the School for International Training in African Diaspora History and Cultures. From 2008 until 2012, she served as the Vice Chancellor of the University.
In March 2007, she was chosen as one of 5 scholars to speak at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on the 200th Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery.
She was elected to the executive board of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization as Ghana’s representative in October 2009. (UNESCO).
Between February 2013 through January 2017, Prof. served as Minister of Education.
On October 26, 2018, she was named chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa, which is based in Zimbabwe.
Prof. has served on a number of local and international boards and committees, including the Centre for Democratic Governance, the Harriet Tuban Series on the African Diaspora, the Africa Initiative in Canada, and others.

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the NDC has appointed her as John Dramani Mahama’s female running partner for the first time in history.
